Wife Eater
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A year into widowhood, Chiho is living alone in a quiet apartment, and the loneliness is starting to settle in. Her friend Kanae — married eight years and very much a woman who knows what she wants — decides the solution is simple: get Chiho some new scenery, literally. Redecorate. Invite someone over. Move on. That someone turns out to be Satoru, a young man who clearly has feelings for Chiho but has no idea what to do with them. What starts as a home makeover slowly becomes something more personal for everyone involved. This is a two-episode OVA from 2003, so it's short and moves quickly. The appeal here isn't shock value — it's the character dynamic. Chiho is grieving and cautious, Kanae is pragmatic and a little mischievous, and Satoru is trying to figure out where he fits. The tension between those three personalities gives the story more texture than you'd expect from something this brief. If you enjoyed the slower, character-driven pacing of something like Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo, or the emotionally grounded setup in Shoujo-tachi no Sadism, this scratches a similar itch. It's not trying to be epic — it's a quiet, intimate story about loneliness and what people reach for when they're tired of feeling it. For a 2003 production, the animation holds up reasonably well too.
