Serving as a precursor to the renowned "Space Battleship Yamato" series, this pilot film offers a glimpse into the origins of the story. Initially created in August 1974 for internal review at Yomiuri Television, this 9-minute special remained exclusive to the executives for many years. It was not until 1990 that it received a public release, featured within the "Uchuu Senkan Yamato LD Box Set." While subsequently included in various DVD and Blu-ray releases, the film suffers from some audio omissions due to unresolved copyright problems that arose between the LD and later DVD/Blu-ray releases. This makes the pilot film a unique piece of animation history, offering a historically significant but incomplete viewing experience compared to its later iterations.
