Watch Me Sink My Putz

Synopsis
On the same day, at the same university club, two golfers arrive — both convinced they're the best player there. That tension alone carries this single-episode OVA from Gainax — yes, the same studio behind FLCL and Evangelion — based on a manga that never got the attention it probably deserved. Akihiko is the polished, technically sharp type. Kyoichi is the wild card who plays on instinct and attitude. They clash almost immediately, and their matches carry that satisfying push-and-pull of two people who genuinely cannot stand being outplayed by each other. Throw in Misako, Akihiko's caddy, who becomes Kyoichi's biggest distraction on the course, and the dynamic gets a little more complicated than pure sports rivalry. The tone is light — there's comedy woven into the competition, and the romantic tension never takes itself too seriously. At one episode, it's a quick watch that doesn't overstay its welcome. Golf is rarely the sport anime reaches for, so if you've enjoyed anything like Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story or the classic Pro Golfer Saru and want to see where the genre's older, quieter entries landed, this is worth an hour of your time. Think of it as a snapshot of late-80s sports anime — character-driven, breezy, and just competitive enough to keep you invested in who actually wins.
