Synopsis
From the outside, Angela's sprawling estate looks beautiful — but from the inside, it feels suffocating. Her father is cold, controlling, and treats the household staff however he pleases — particularly the maid Bridget, who has no real power to push back. Angela watches all of this and feels something between helpless and furious. Then there's John, the butler, who actually pays attention to her. That dynamic is where the story goes, and it does not take the safe route getting there. This 2-episode OVA from 2001 leans hard into power imbalance, repressed desire, and the emotional mess that comes when someone finds warmth in a house full of coldness. The animation holds up for what it is — the estate setting gets real detail, and the character expressions do a lot of heavy lifting in the quieter scenes. If you've watched something like Bible Black or Discipline and appreciated how those titles built tension through character dynamics rather than just rushing through scenes, Vicious sits comfortably in that same space. It's based on a manga and adapts that source material's emotionally charged tone pretty faithfully. At only two episodes, it doesn't overstay its welcome. It sets up the relationships, lets the tension breathe, and follows through. Not something to go into expecting light viewing, but if that specific mix of gothic atmosphere and complicated emotional territory sounds familiar from other titles in the genre, this one delivers on that.
