The Dining of Link Lee
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In Beijing, a city full of opportunities and pressures where modernity and traditional culture echo each other, the small pavilion located in a quiet alley at the foot of the CBD is the gathering place where various elements collide and ferment. It has no eye-catching signs and luxurious decoration, making it easy to overlook it when passing by. But familiar guests know that in this small warm space, you can unload the fatigue of the day and enjoy a comfortable time. As a result, there are many dusty stories in everyone's heart quietly flowing out.

I loved how this episode starts, showing all the protagonists from the previous stories having a better time and living better lives. It truly warms your heart. This episode also reveals more about Link Lee’s past and his reunion with an old friend from the military. Anyway, this ending feels like a break, a gift after all the emotional stories we’ve experienced. It feels like the last day of school. The Dining of Link Lee has become one of my favourite series, with stories full of emotion and valuable life lessons.
This episode hit me pretty hard on a personal level. I haven’t gone through moments as unfortunate as Zhirui’s, but I have experienced times when you think you’re doing your best, only to realize that you’re far from it. When promises are broken, time isn’t managed properly, the people you love are neglected, and you convince yourself that working hard at the office is the only thing you need to do. You end up feeling trapped in your own disappointment. And once again, when you hit rock bottom, there may still be someone who believes in you. You just have to open your eyes, reflect on your actions, and recognize it.
This episode centers on Zhi rui, a young entrepreneur whose business failed and who is now trying to recover the money he invested, and Lu, a child whose parents are the scammers responsible, and are now fugitives. I love that what starts as a complicated relationship becomes something unexpected for both of them. They are each missing something important in their lives, and perhaps they can help each other move forward.
After losing the fight in his comeback, Zhuo Yu hits an all-time low. Bruised, broke, and hopeless. (The raw moments he shares with his only companion really made me emotional). This is where, after hitting rock bottom, you finally have the opportunity to rise again and keep trying. Sometimes, it’s hard to realize that the only way to recover your strength and your spirit is after life hits you hard. Just like boxing.
This episode does a great job of showing what can happen when you’re talented, strong, and capable, but you simply give up and stop trying. Zhuo Yu was a well respected boxer who stopped fighting because of an injury. Since then, he has been living in the shadow of his past, with his dream put on hold. Life, and a little friend, starts giving him small signs about his path and his potential. The question is: will he be able to recognize those signs and listen to them?
The drama surrounding the accusations against Lee Xing continues in this episode, and it seems as though everything is lost for him. However, Link Lee’s comforting food and companionship give him the strength to keep searching for the truth and clear his name. Sometimes, when everything feels hopeless, all you need is one person who believes in you to change your perspective and help you get back on track.
What happens when an act of goodwill turns against you? You help a woman who faints in front of your car and take her to the hospital, but later, everyone assumes that you are responsible for what happened to her. You are accused in the media and judged by the public without anyone knowing the full story. Suddenly, everyone is against you. This episode shows the harsh reality of doing something good for someone, only to have life put you through one of its toughest moments.
In this episode, Xiaoran is a successful sales representative who works hard to maintain a good life in the city. However, although her parents love her, they do not seem to fully understand the sacrifices involved in living far away from her family. No one will ever completely understand your journey or the sacrifices you have made. At the same time, communicating those struggles to your family can be difficult, and you can only hope that one day they will understand why this path is so important to you. (Is something going to happen to Lee?)
This profound second episode shows Xiaolu discovering the truth about her family. We can see Lee is a strong source of support for his community, not only by serving food, but also by offering comfort. It demonstrates that food is not the solution to life’s problems, but it can provide a moment to recover our strength, find peace, and keep moving forward. Xiaolu’s letter is one of the most beautiful declarations of love, acceptance, and maturity I’ve ever seen.
This is my first donghua ever, and I must say that I’m impressed by the animation and the tone of the story. The story shows a former soldier who now runs a restaurant. It may sound typical, but there’s something poetic about a person who once fought in battles now bringing comforting food and peace to others. The delicate animation feels like taking a walk through a Beijing neighbourhood. Combined with the music, it creates a truly heartwarming experience.
