the show wastes no time throwing Seina into actual danger as the ship gets targeted by space pirates almost immediately. this is the first demonstration of what will become GXP's central joke — Seina's legendary bad luck somehow keeps turning into accidental good luck when it comes to pirates, and nobody including Seina understands why. the pirate attack is handled with good comedic timing and the action is snappy for an early 2000s production. Amane gets more personality here and the beginnings of the supporting crew dynamic start forming. nothing groundbreaking but the pacing is tight.
