📖 SYNOPSIS

In contemporary Japan, Mitsuko, a schoolgirl, takes it upon herself to protect Yu-Lian, a half-Chinese transfer student, from bullying. One night, Mitsuko discovers Emily, an old American doll. The doll's history is revealed to be connected to a 1921 exchange program and a brave young girl, Mitsuko's grandmother, who saved it from the "doll burnings" during the anti-Western war period. The next day, during show-and-tell, Mitsuko shares Emily's story, aiming to encourage Yu-Lian. The anime explores themes of friendship, historical preservation, and overcoming prejudice. The story is set in modern-day Japan, with flashbacks to the past.
