the school festival episode and a smart tonal pivot after episode 3's intensity. Shirabe and Kirika being sent to infiltrate Lydian Academy and steal the Gear users' pendants while Hibiki and Miku watch their friends perform is classic Symphogear — using a mundane setting to create tension and then blowing it up. the fight that breaks out on school grounds has that particular Symphogear energy of being simultaneously ridiculous and completely sincere about it. Nastassja arriving to assist the retreat gives her more active presence in the plot and the stealth technology escape is a clean way to reset the board without feeling like a cop-out. the domestic warmth of the festival scenes makes the conflict hit harder.
