Sweet Blue Flowers Arc Review
MIGHT BE A SPOILER FOR SOME. READ AT UR OWN RISK.
I searched and found that the anime only covers about 1/3 of the series, so I’m a bit disappointed that there’s no Season 2. This season focused more on Fumi’s development rather than Akira’s or their relationship. I guess you could say it’s more of a romantic introduction to the manga itself.
The visuals are really nice. It’s a subtle detail, but the hair animation in some scenes is fluid, especially for a 2000s anime. My only issue is that sometimes the characters, mostly the male ones, look alike. It’s like the One Piece syndrome but for the guys lol
The writing is also good. There are many cryptic scenes, but they feel well laid out. However, the relationships didn’t feel as intense compared to some yuri/yaoi anime I’ve watched/read. Instead, this one portrays them in a more natural and grounded way. The emotional impact varies. I think it would hit harder for some viewers. Personally, I relate more to Akira in terms of personality and how she handles things, which is why I was expecting an arc for her in the anime.
The soundtrack is also well chosen and fits the mood of each situation really well. Overall, it feels like Akira got sidelined a bit, considering she’s also a protagonist, but I guess it’s just not her arc yet. As for the manga, I might read it when I have time. I usually prefer watching slice-of-life, soft series rather than reading them, since they work better for me in animated form.
