Wu Yu doesn't just power up and steamroll his enemies — he has to reckon with betrayal from people he trusted, rebuild from nothing, and figure out who he actually is without the crown. Along the way, he meets an immortal who hands him the Ruyi Jingu Bang (yes, that Ruyi Jingu Bang, the Monkey King's staff), and his journey toward immortality kicks off from there. The cultivation system here is pretty layered, blending martial arts with spiritual growth in a way that feels more thought-out than your average power fantasy. The historical fantasy setting has some genuine texture to it too — it's not just window dressing. If you liked Battle Through the Heavens or Tales of Demons and Gods, this hits a similar vein: betrayed protagonist, slow build of strength, satisfying payoffs. It also shares some DNA with Martial Universe in terms of tone and scale. The first couple episodes set a strong foundation of resilience and self-discovery, and the pacing doesn't waste your time getting to the good stuff.
