Synopsis
Stuck in his apartment with nothing to do and summer break stretching out ahead of him, he gets a call from an old acquaintance with a simple request: can he look after her daughter, Hazuki, while she and her husband head out on a trip? He figures anything beats staring at his ceiling, so he packs up and heads out to the countryside. What he finds there is a quieter, slower pace of life, and a Hazuki who's grown up considerably since the last time he saw her. That gap between who she was and who she is now becomes the emotional center of this 2-episode OVA from Mousou Senka, based on a visual novel. The rural setting does a lot of the heavy lifting here. It feels genuinely peaceful, a world away from the urban backdrop that most stories like this default to, and the character designs are expressive enough to carry the intimate tone the story is going for. If you've watched something like Boku no Yayoi-san or Aneki no Kounai Kaikinbi and appreciated that blend of reconnection drama with a slower, more grounded atmosphere, this sits comfortably in that same space. It's not trying to be a grand story. it's a short, low-key character piece about two people rediscovering each other in an unlikely setting. Short runtime means it gets to the point without overstaying its welcome.

groudon★★★★☆EP 1A single phone call changed everything and the way Hazuki greeted him at the house was a great start for their summer together
xiangliyaos★★★★☆EP 1Transitioning from the city to the country was a nice touch and the atmosphere felt very natural for what this is, Hazuki grew up quite a bit since their last meeting and the character design really highlights that change, I liked how the episode spent time setting up the living situation before getting into the more intense scenes for this opening
shaytheotaku1★★★☆☆EP 1Him moping in his flat at the start was way too relatable and the change of pace happened fast once he left the city
kaepora_gaebora_269★★★★☆EP 1That rural setting feels so cozy and it makes for a great backdrop for this kind of story
aerith_gainsborough★★☆☆☆EP 1That white cat moment was unsettling, but it felt a bit rushed compared to how the manga handled the tension
bloodrayne1023★★☆☆☆EP 1They really messed up by not giving us that false sense of happiness before showing what was wrong with Hikaru and the impact just was not the same
faye_valentine★★★★☆EP 1I was not expecting Hazuki to look that different after a few years and her design caught me off guard in a good way
breemx1★★★☆☆EP 1I really loved seeing the details of Yoshiki's home life and the small background things made the whole setting feel so real
levi_lance★★☆☆☆EP 1The atmosphere is definitely there, and the voice acting is perfect for Yoshiki, but I am still torn on the pacing because the reveal happened way too fast. It feels like they are trying to fit too much into the first episode instead of letting the dread sink in, and the subtitles were also a bit weird in some spots
nukekubi_nemesis_63★★★★☆EP 1Hikaru is so cute that it makes the whole situation even more terrifying and Yoshiki looks like he is barely holding it together in his own house
crystal_320★★★★☆EP 1Hikaru talking about finding his real self in the mountains gave me chills and my skin was crawling during that entire explanation
tokay★★★★☆EP 1The animation style fits the vibe so well and the voice actors sound just like the characters should from the manga
jean_jester_110★★☆☆☆EP 1I had to look away during the flickering light scenes because they made me feel so sick and I wish there was a version without that effect
poppy_365★★☆☆☆EP 1Why was Tanaka in this episode already because that feels way too early for the story and it makes me worried about the rest of the season
yuji_itadori_134★★★☆☆EP 1Showing the imposter thing right at the start killed the mystery and they should have let the creepy vibes build up naturally like the manga did
