Star☆Jewel Gaiden: Natsumi Oblivion
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When goddesses of light and dark wage cosmic war, the most powerful weapon is not what you'd expect. That's the premise of Star☆Jewel Gaiden: Natsumi Oblivion, a one-episode OVA from 2012 that takes the magical girl formula and drags it somewhere significantly more explicit. Natsumi Jinno is a goddess of light, but she wakes up in a futuristic Budapest with no memory of who she is, believing herself to be an ordinary student at Santa Maria Academy. Meanwhile, girls around campus are disappearing, and something sinister is pulling the strings behind the scenes. The setup actually has more going on than you might assume — there is a time travel element, a villain with a gang, and a former mechanic named Juni who helps Natsumi start piecing things together. The magical girl transformation sequences and the divine power hierarchy give it a strange structure that sits somewhere between genre parody and genuine mythology-building. It is a single episode, so do not expect deep character development. If you have watched something like Bible Black or Discipline: The Record of a Crusade, you already know the general territory. The Budapest setting and the goddess-versus-goddess conflict give it a slightly different flavor than most entries in the genre. It is niche, it is short, and it is exactly what it advertises itself to be.
