Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a galaxy where lightsabers have nearly gone extinct and the Jedi are a myth, the last person who knows how to forge a saber just got kidnapped. That's the world Kara lives in — she's the daughter of Lah Zhima, a lightsaber-smith who cracked the lost art of crafting blades that actually shift color based on your connection to the Force. Think about that for a second: your lightsaber literally tells everyone in the room whether you've gone dark. When her father is taken by forces who want that tech for themselves, Kara has no choice but to chase after him, and what starts as a rescue mission pulls her into something much bigger — a mysterious figure named Margrave Juro who's trying to rebuild the entire Jedi Order from scratch. The tension here is that nobody can really tell who's on which side, and those color-changing sabers become the ultimate lie detector. This is an expansion of the original short from Star Wars: Visions, which was already one of the standout episodes, now getting the longer format it deserved. The whole thing blends Japanese animation sensibilities with Star Wars lore in a way that feels fresh rather than gimmicky. If you liked the wandering ronin energy of Samurai 7 or the genre-mixing swagger of Cowboy Bebop, this hits a similar nerve — familiar building blocks rearranged into something that doesn't feel like anything else. It's Star Wars filtered through a lens that actually makes the Force feel mysterious again.
