Shusaku Replay

Posing as the building manager, a man infiltrates a girls' music academy dormitory — and his intentions are far from innocent. That's the setup for Shusaku Replay, a 4-episode OVA from 2000 based on an adult visual novel, and it doesn't shy away from going to uncomfortable places fast. Shusaku is the kind of character who's less 'villain you love to hate' and more 'genuinely unsettling,' using his fake authority over the dorm residents to manipulate and control. What gives the story a bit more texture than you might expect is Eri Takabe, a student who actually picks up that something is wrong — so there's at least some tension beyond pure setup. The psychological angle is where this one separates itself slightly from similar titles. If you've watched Kisaku or Shusaku Liberty and want more of that same dark, oppressive atmosphere with a school setting, this fits right in that corner. It's also worth knowing this is essentially a continuation, so fans of the original Shusaku will find familiar energy here, pushed further. The animation holds up reasonably well for the era, and the character dynamics have a bit more layering than the premise suggests. It's dark, it's bleak, and it's not trying to be anything else — if that's the tone you're looking for, Shusaku Replay delivers exactly what it advertises.
