Septem Charm Magical Kanan: SP Summer Camp
Oshimeter
Synopsis
The magical girl framing is a deliberate misdirect, and Magical Kanan: SP Summer Camp leans hard into its adult visual novel roots. Chihaya and her friends head to the beach for a summer camp, and things start out feeling pretty low-stakes. There's sun, there's water, there's a classmate named Nami who has a crush on a guy named Natsuki but can't bring herself to say anything. Relatable enough setup. Then Nami's unresolved feelings start pulling her somewhere darker, and she stumbles onto an old mansion hiding something called the Netherworld Tree. That's where the vibe shifts. What starts as a breezy summer trip turns into something stranger and considerably more intense, with the Tree acting as a kind of catalyst for the characters' buried desires and inner conflicts. The show runs two OVA episodes, adapted from a visual novel by Triple X, and it spends that short runtime blending supernatural threat with very explicit adult content — so going in blind isn't recommended. If you've seen something like La Blue Girl or Bible Black, you already have a rough sense of the territory here. The magical girl aesthetic is real but it's decoration over a much more mature story. It's a specific niche, and it knows exactly what it is. If that combination of supernatural intrigue and adult content sounds like your thing, the summer camp setup at least gives it a narrative hook that's more coherent than most entries in this space.
