Rin's backstory was due to be explained and that's what this episode was about. It was a nice insight into her background because it seemed like she had it easy. But in reality, it was completely the opposite. That also helps solidify her character as part of the trio - that is now complete. Pretty much the same worries and experiences as the other two.
