Secret Desires
Oshimeter
Synopsis
All it takes is a chance collision with a stranger on the street for a mysterious VHS tape to fall into Yuuto's hands. He brings it home, pops it in, and watches himself tie his own sister to a chair. The tape, it turns out, doesn't play movies — it plays the viewer's buried desires back at them, unfiltered and uncomfortably specific. That's the setup for Mi-da-ra, a 3-episode OVA from 2002 based on a popular hentai visual novel, and it leans harder into psychological territory than most entries in the genre bother to. The premise is genuinely unsettling in an interesting way — less about shock value and more about what happens when someone gets addicted to a mirror that shows the parts of themselves they'd rather not acknowledge. Yumi eventually discovers the tape too, and things get complicated from there. If you've watched something like Bible Black and appreciated how it built atmosphere and unease around its darker content, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of Discipline: Record of a Crusade or Night Shift Nurses who want something with a slightly more psychological backbone might find it worthwhile. The production is what you'd expect from a 2002 Studio Jam OVA — nothing flashy — but the concept carries more weight than the runtime suggests. It's short, it's strange, and it takes its premise more seriously than you'd expect.
