Samurai XXX
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In feudal Japan, a ronin gets hired to find a legendary treasure — straightforward enough, except the map is split into pieces tattooed on the backs of female ninja, and those tattoos only become visible under very specific, very intimate circumstances. That's the whole setup for Youkou no Ken, and it commits to that premise with zero apology across its 2-episode OVA run. Matagoro Yoshimura travels the land tracking down kunoichi one by one, each encounter moving him closer to the complete map. The tone is comedic and self-aware, treating the whole thing as a slightly absurd adventure rather than anything po-faced or serious. It knows what it is. The adventure framing is genuine enough that there's actual narrative momentum between the explicit scenes — you're following a quest, not just a series of disconnected vignettes. Think somewhere between the ninja action atmosphere of Ninja Scroll and the unapologetically adult territory of La Blue Girl, but with a much lighter, almost playful energy than either. If you've watched Fencer of Minerva and wanted something funnier and less grim, this sits closer to that end of the spectrum. At only 2 episodes it doesn't overstay its welcome, and the historical feudal Japan setting gives it a bit more texture than the average entry in the genre. Worth a watch if the premise already made you grin.
