Sacrilege

Atsuko and Kei are both police partners and lovers, and their undercover work is considerably more complicated because of it. They're tracking a shady drug operation in the city, but what they stumble into is way stranger than a simple deal gone wrong. There's a cult involved, and the drugs they're peddling don't just get people high — they turn men into something feral and out of control. Now the two have to figure out how to take down the whole operation before things spiral further out of hand. That's the setup for Rejuvenation, a two-episode OVA from 2000 that leans hard into its hentai roots while still giving you a genuine crime thriller backbone to hang everything on. The cult angle adds an unsettling layer that keeps it from feeling like pure style-over-substance, and the dynamic between Atsuko and Kei gives the story a grounding that a lot of titles in this space skip entirely. Studio Kyuuma's animation holds up reasonably well for the era, and the soundtrack actually does some work to build tension rather than just fill silence. If you've watched things like Adventure Kid or Stepmother's Sin and wanted something with a bit more plot scaffolding underneath the explicit content, this scratches that itch. It's not trying to be deep, but it's put together with enough care that it feels like an actual story rather than a loose framing device.
