Synopsis

Cute art aside, cats running the Ming Dynasty makes Chinese history easier to swallow than any textbook ever could. This is the thirteenth season of 'If History Were a Bunch of Cats,' this time diving into the Daming Huangchao, the Ming Dynasty era, with a full cast of fluffy, anthropomorphic felines standing in for emperors, officials, and historical heavyweights. From the first couple of episodes, you're dropped into a world where major historical figures have whiskers and tails, acting out real events with comedic flair that keeps things moving without getting boring. Each episode is short, so there's no commitment required; you can watch one during lunch and actually come away knowing something about Ming Dynasty China. If you've seen Neko Neko Nihonshi and liked the idea of cats teaching history, this scratches exactly the same itch but with a Chinese historical setting. Fans of Hetalia: Axis Powers will also recognize the formula: take dense historical material, assign it to non-human characters, and let the absurdity do the heavy lifting. It's clearly aimed at younger viewers, but the humor lands across age groups because it never tries too hard. Think of it less as an anime to analyze and more as a genuinely fun way to pick up historical context you'd otherwise never bother learning. Twelve episodes, short runtime, cats in imperial robes: it's a low-effort, decent-reward watch.
