In this episode, we meet Tomoe and Hinaichigo, his anxiously attached doll. Jun experiences a breakdown triggered by running into someone from his school, which plunges him into a deep depression. Meanwhile, we learn about the Alice Game, a "duel to the death" between autonomous dolls. I really like the pacing of this story; we gradually learn more about the dolls' abilities and powers without over-explaining or being too brief. The characters develop well, and their interactions are quite comical, but there's also room for drama and reflection. The battle scene is very well animated (for the standards of those times), and the setting is adorable and beautifully designed.
