Ringetsu The Animation
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Born into the Rindo bloodline, Naoto carries a curse that has defined his family for generations — every child born into his line is female, and the only way to break it is to father a child with someone from the Higetsu bloodline before the next red moon. That's the setup, and it's a surprisingly structured one for a 3-episode OVA from 2006. Naoto has four Higetsu sisters to connect with — Ayumi, Shino, Mizuna, and Yuiko — each carrying spiritual power and, naturally, their own emotional baggage around this whole arrangement. The supernatural framing gives the story a bit more grounding than you'd expect, leaning into the weight of family obligation and what it actually means to be thrust into a ritual by circumstance rather than choice. It's not deep drama, but the curse mythology gives it a coherent thread to follow across three episodes. If you've watched something like Bible Black or Discipline: The Record of a Crusade and appreciated when there's at least a narrative reason for everything unfolding, this sits in similar territory. The character dynamics get more interesting than the premise initially suggests, and Flavors Soft put enough care into the animation that the tone holds together. It's a short watch with a clear beginning, middle, and end — which is more than a lot of titles in this genre manage.
