Ride your wave is wonderfully written. It's complexity with grief is something many face, unable to let go of someone you loved. The thing with love though is if you truly love them, let them go when the time calls for it. It shows how love can transcend a life time, how you can love someone yet still let them go. The emotions you feel when watching this are a mixture of joy, melancholy, and fear. We fear to let people go as we wish to hold onto them tight once more, yet we know they won't come back to us. To get over that fear, you must get over them while still remembering them. You have to use your past memories not to stick to, but to build on yourself as a person.
