The entire ordeal was a sad frustrating and lonely endeavor. The ending shows that life still found a way. By some miracle all the girls he knew were not only safe, but were all together again. It was a sweet ending showing all the lives Kotarou had touched throughout his life. I hope he finds what he is looking for in the next life. Peace out space cowboy.
