Synopsis
Akira is a street orphan scraping by in the slums of a post-apocalyptic city, and his best shot at not dying broke is becoming a hunter—someone who dives into the ancient ruins of a collapsed civilization to scavenge relics worth a fortune. Problem is, those ruins are crawling with rogue bioweapons and automated security systems that have been killing people for longer than anyone can remember. On what should probably be a suicide run, Akira stumbles across Alpha, a mysterious AI that only he can see through augmented reality. She offers to be his guide and combat trainer, which sounds generous until you start wondering what she actually wants from him. That tension between trust and suspicion sits underneath everything and gives the whole thing a real edge. The world-building here is dense in a good way—cyberpunk tech layered over post-apocalyptic decay, with a lived-in feel to the slums and the ruins alike. If you liked the dangerous descent into the unknown in Made in Abyss or the gritty, desolate atmosphere of Blame!, this hits a similar nerve but with more gunfights and a survivalist grind to it. There's also a bit of No Guns Life's vibe in how it handles a loner protagonist navigating a world that's stacked against him. It's based on a light novel, and the story leans hard into high-stakes exploration where one wrong move means you don't come back. Worth your time if you're into worlds that feel genuinely hostile.
