Synopsis

Layered idol harmonics collide with imagery pulled straight from Japanese folklore — that's the vibe here. Ray (Chou Kaguya-hime! Version) is a single music video, the ending theme for the anime Chou Kaguya-hime!, and it pairs Kaguya (voiced by Yuuko Natsuyoshi) with Yachiyo Runami (voiced by Saori Hayami) for a duet that honestly hits harder than you'd expect from something this short. Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato put together visuals that blend Princess Kaguya mythology — moonlit bamboo, celestial imagery — with glossy modern idol staging, and the contrast works really well. It doesn't try to tell a full story. Instead, it leans into the emotional weight of the song itself, letting the chemistry between the two performers carry everything. Hayami Saori alone is reason enough to press play if you know her work, and the way her voice threads with Natsuyoshi's gives the whole thing a warmth that sticks with you. If you liked the emotional musical moments in Idoly Pride or the character-driven performances in Love Live, this scratches a similar itch but in a more concentrated, atmospheric package. Fans of Show By Rock's willingness to get weird with visual presentation will appreciate the art direction too. It's a quick watch — one episode, basically a few minutes — but it's a genuinely pretty piece of animation tied to a song worth hearing more than once.
