Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend
Oshimeter
Synopsis
For years now, Sakuta Azusagawa has been dealing with Adolescence Syndrome — that strange phenomenon where emotional turmoil manifests as literal, reality-bending supernatural events. By now, he's a university student with a relatively stable life and a relationship with actress Mai Sakurajima that somehow survived all the weirdness. But stability doesn't last long in this world. When Mai reveals she's been secretly performing as the mysterious internet singer Touko Kirishima, things start unraveling in ways that feel distinctly wrong — reality itself begins splitting, and Sakuta gets a message from an alternate world warning him to stop Kirishima before things break for good. This movie picks up after the events of the Santa Claus film, so you'll want the full series under your belt before diving in. The appeal here is the same thing that's always made Bunny Girl Senpai work: supernatural problems that are really just emotional ones wearing a sci-fi costume, wrapped around characters you've grown genuinely attached to over multiple entries. CloverWorks handles the animation, and if you've followed the franchise, you know they nail the quiet coastal atmosphere of Fujisawa alongside the heavier dramatic moments. If you liked the reality-warping emotional stakes of Your Name or the way The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya used the supernatural to explore something deeply personal, this sits comfortably in that space. It's a continuation that feels earned rather than obligatory.
