Prince Bojji is deaf, can't speak, and is so physically weak he can barely lift a sword. In a kingdom where strength determines everything, he's written off as the 'Useless Prince' by pretty much everyone around him. But Bojji wants to become the greatest king in the world, and the gap between where he is and where he wants to be is what makes this story so compelling. His first real ally is Kage, a tiny shadow creature and the last survivor of an assassin clan, who happens to be the only one who truly understands him. Their friendship is the emotional core here, and it hits harder than you'd expect from something that looks like a children's storybook. That art style, by the way, is intentional — the whole movie has this hand-drawn, fairy tale quality that feels completely different from anything else in the genre. Don't let it lull you into thinking this is light stuff, though. The world is full of betrayal, cruelty, and characters dealing with real loss. If you liked the deceptive warmth of Made in Abyss or the underdog resilience in The Rising of the Shield Hero, this sits in similar emotional territory. There's also shades of The Ancient Magus' Bride in how it builds its fantasy world with quiet sincerity rather than spectacle. Based on a web manga, this movie continues Bojji and Kage's journey in a story about proving yourself when nobody believes you can.
