Synopsis

Ayaka, a shy high schooler, transforms into a completely different person the moment a costume goes on. Off the convention floor, she's quiet and reserved. In cosplay, she's confident, expressive, and fully herself — which is a genuinely interesting character dynamic to build a story around. When a school photographer named Haruki notices her enthusiasm at a cosplay event, he offers to document her work, and the two start navigating competitions and conventions together. What begins as a practical arrangement starts developing into something warmer, though the OVA keeps things light and comedic rather than diving deep into romance. The cosplay community gets treated with real affection here — it's not played for mockery or cringe, but as something worth caring about. The themes are pretty straightforward: be yourself, find your people, let someone see the parts of you that feel embarrassing. If you liked My Dress-Up Darling's genuine enthusiasm for costume craft and the awkward closeness it creates between two people, this scratches a similar itch in a shorter format. Fans of Cosplay Complex will also find familiar territory. It's a single OVA, so it's not asking for a big time commitment — more of a compact, comedic slice of otaku hobby culture with a soft romantic undercurrent. Worth an afternoon if that specific niche appeals to you.
