Princess Principal: Crown Handler 4 - Fabulous Platypus
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Imagine a steampunk-soaked Victorian London split in half by a giant wall and staffed by teenage girl spies who are way too good at their jobs. That's the world of Princess Principal, and this Blu-ray special — Fabulous Platypus — is basically the franchise letting its hair down for a bit. Instead of the usual high-tension defection missions and political assassinations that define the Crown Handler films, Team White Pigeon gets tangled up in a smaller, quirkier mystery that lets their personalities bounce off each other without anyone getting shot at (probably). You've got Ange with her gravity-defying C-Ball, Princess Charlotte playing double agent in her own kingdom, Dorothy behind the wheel, Beatrice copying voices, and Chise doing samurai things — all of them applying their ridiculous spy skills to something decidedly less life-or-death. Yuki Kajiura's jazzy score still hits, and the steampunk aesthetic is as gorgeous as ever, but the vibe here is more cozy camaraderie than cloak-and-dagger tension. Think of it as a palette cleanser between the heavier Crown Handler installments. If you liked the downtime moments in Spy x Family or the way Lycoris Recoil balances cute character dynamics with its action setup, this scratches a similar itch. Fair warning though — this is deep continuity territory, so maybe don't start here. Watch the original series and the Crown Handler films first, then enjoy this as the warm little bonus it's meant to be.
