akumapulserated Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time Episode 8 - Let's Choose a Party Name
This episode shifts gears from the crafting-focused slice-of-life tone of earlier episodes into something with a bit more political intrigue and looming danger. Takumi continues bonding with his apprentice Reyva as they work on a project together, and there's a nice low-key charm to watching him mentor her — it's one of the show's more genuine, unhurried moments. The back half brings a meeting with royalty that's played refreshingly informal rather than stuffy, which fits the show's easygoing sensibility. But the episode doesn't stay cozy for long — rising tension from a rival faction starts to bleed into Takumi's otherwise quiet life, and the closing scenes raise the stakes more than we've seen so far in the series. The mentor/student dynamic remains a highlight, the world-building around Takumi's growing reputation feels earned, and the pacing finally injects some real tension after a fairly relaxed stretch of episodes. If you're watching for isekai crafting/slice-of-life comfort, the darker turn near the end might feel like a tonal jolt. It's also still very much a "middle episode" — setting pieces in motion rather than paying anything off. Overall a solid, if transitional, episode — worth it if you're already invested in Takumi's journey, less essential as a standalone watch.
