Pinkerton
Oshimeter
Synopsis
From the outside, Erika's life looks effortless — student council president, model student, steady friend to Hikari — everything about her suggests someone who has it all under control. Then Hotaru transfers in, and that sense of control starts to slip. There's something about the new girl that neither Erika nor Hikari can quite put their finger on, and the three of them fall into a closeness that blurs pretty quickly from friendship into something harder to define. This 3-episode OVA from Studio 9 Maiami, based on Monorino's manga, spends its runtime exploring that tension — the push and pull between who you think you are and what you actually want. The high school setting is familiar, but the relationships here get complicated in ways that keep things from feeling generic. The animation does solid work conveying the emotional weight between characters, and the soundtrack earns its place rather than just filling silence. If you've watched something like Bible Black and appreciated when adult anime bothers to give its characters actual interiority, Pinkerton sits in that same general space. It's closer to Discipline: Record of a Crusade in terms of the interpersonal drama driving things forward. Three episodes means it moves quickly, so don't expect a slow burn — but the setup between Erika, Hikari, and Hotaru gives the story enough grounding to feel like it's about something beyond just the surface.
