📖 SYNOPSIS
Getting busted for space traffic violations doesn't sound like the start of an adventure for a superhuman and a cyborg, but their punishment is anything but ordinary. Cleaning duty on the Milky☆Subway, a beat-up interplanetary train that's seen better decades. They're not alone either — a handful of other offenders get roped into the same gig, all supervised by a no-nonsense police officer named Ryoko. Sounds like a mundane sentence until the train randomly launches itself into deep space with everyone still on board. Now this mismatched crew of delinquents has to figure out how to deal with a runaway subway hurtling through the cosmos.
This is a PV tied to the Ginga Tokkyuu Milky☆Subway exhibition at Ikebukuro PARCO, animated by Shin-Ei Animation in a distinctive full CGI style. The vibe is pure slapstick comedy in a sci-fi wrapper — think less existential space drama, more chaotic group project where nobody asked to be there. The characters bounce off each other well, with Chiharu and Makina anchoring the dynamic alongside duos Akane and Kanata, and cyborg partners Kurt and Max.
If you liked the goofy episodic energy of Space Dandy or the ragtag-crew-on-a-ship feel of Outlaw Star, this hits a similar frequency. It also shares some of Cowboy Bebop's "stuck together by circumstance" DNA, just way more lighthearted. At roughly four minutes per episode in the main series, it's the kind of thing you can knock out in one sitting without committing your whole evening.
