the cultural festival arc begins and with it the show finds its footing again after a slightly rocky couple of episodes. episode 8 has the Hero Club getting involved in the drama club's production and the energy immediately returns to what made the early episodes so fun. the drama club president deserves her own spin-off honestly. she appears for maybe five minutes and is immediately one of the most memorable side characters in the whole show. her complete unfazed acceptance of the Hero Club's chaos and her ability to channel their delusions into something that might actually work for a stage production is genuinely inspired. she's the version of Mizuki who has fully given up on being normal and come out the other side as something magnificent. Yamato throwing himself into the role of a stage hero with the same unhinged conviction he brings to everything else in his life is exactly the kind of energy this show runs on. the gap between how seriously he takes it and how objectively ridiculous it is never gets old. and watching the other members of the Hero Club each find their own way to contribute to the production in ways that are completely in character is satisfying in that particular way this show does well — using the comedy to show you that these characters actually have their own internal logic and consistency. Mizuki's expression when she realizes she's been accidentally cast in the production is a work of art. this episode is a return to form.
