episode 6 is the sports festival episode and it's... fine. it's entertaining but it's probably the weakest episode of the season so far and i think the reason is pretty simple: sports festival episodes live or die on how well the show uses the format to highlight its characters and Outburst Dreamer Boys only partially succeeds at that here.
the good stuff first. Nakamura in the cavalry battle is genuinely hilarious. the way the show kicks into slow motion dramatic music while he nonchalantly dodges people throwing themselves at him as if he's in the climax of an action film rather than a school sports day is exactly the kind of escalation that works. that one sequence had me fully losing it.
but outside of that the episode spreads itself a little thin. the student council showing up as antagonists feels like the show is trying to inject some external conflict into what is otherwise a pretty internally focused comedy and it doesn't quite land. the student council as a concept is fine but they feel slightly out of place tonally — too straight faced for a show that runs entirely on chaos and sincerity.
there also isn't enough Mizuki in this episode. she's present but she's more of a background character than usual and every time the show pushes her to the margins the energy drops a little. she's the anchor. without her the boys' antics become slightly exhausting rather than endearing.
still worth watching, still has its moments. just not the show at its best.
