episode 4 introduces Mikuriya Futaba, the new transfer student from America, and the episode is honestly a bit of a mixed bag. on paper he's an interesting addition — handsome, multilingual, seemingly perfect, and yet somehow already on familiar terms with one of the Hero Club members. but in execution his debut episode spends a little too much time setting him up and not enough time actually being funny. that said the Takashima subplot running through this episode more than makes up for it. Takashima attending an iLive concert for his beloved virtual idol iSora and meeting the real performer behind the character is such a good character moment. watching this boy who is completely devoted to a 2D virtual girl suddenly have to confront the very real human being who created her is exactly the kind of tonal whiplash this show handles well. and the fact that Takashima immediately transfers his parasocial devotion to the performer himself rather than feeling betrayed is so funny and so very him. Mizuki's expressions continue to carry a lot of the comedy in this episode. there is a scene where she is just watching the Hero Club react to Mikuriya's arrival with increasing dramatic intensity while she stands in the background looking like she's actively reconsidering every life choice that led her to this moment and it's genuinely one of the funniest visual gags of the series so far. Mikuriya will presumably become more interesting as the show goes on but as a debut he's the weakest new element introduced so far. the episode is still fun, just slightly below the bar the first three episodes set.
