One Outs
Oshimeter
Synopsis
With nothing but slow, mediocre fastballs, Toua Tokuchi hasn't lost in 499 games. The catch is that his game isn't really baseball. It's a gambling contest called One Outs, where a pitcher faces a batter one-on-one with serious money on the line. Tokuchi doesn't care about baseball at all; he cares about reading people, exploiting weaknesses, and walking away richer. When Hiromichi Kojima, the star slugger of the worst team in the league, discovers Tokuchi and recruits him to the Saikyou Saitama Lycaons, things get interesting fast. The team's corrupt owner doesn't want them to win, so he sets up a contract designed to bankrupt Tokuchi: he earns money for every out he records, but loses far more for every run he gives up. It's a deal designed to crush him. Tokuchi takes it anyway, grinning. From there, this 25-episode TV series from Madhouse becomes less about baseball and more about watching a cold, calculating protagonist dismantle every scheme thrown at him using pure psychology and gamesmanship. If you liked Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor or Akagi, this is the same DNA — high-stakes mind games where the tension comes from outsmarting opponents rather than overpowering them. The baseball setting is just the arena. The real sport is manipulation, and Tokuchi never plays fair.
