📖 SYNOPSIS

"Okori Jizou" is a stop-motion anime adaptation of a book, set in the devastated landscape of Hiroshima following the atomic bombing. The story centers on Hiro-chan, a six-year-old girl caught in the blast. While playing, she is severely burned. In her pain, she cries out for her mother and desperately begs for water. Nearby, a local Jizo statue, typically depicted with a laughing expression, undergoes a profound transformation. Its face contorts into an angry expression, and tears begin to flow from its eyes. Hiro-chan is able to drink these tears, finding a moment of respite and perhaps a glimmer of hope amidst the overwhelming tragedy. The anime explores themes of suffering, resilience, and the potential for compassion in the face of unimaginable horror.
