Synopsis
Meet a 41-year-old walrus who drives a taxi for a living. That's the pitch, and somehow it becomes one of the tightest mystery thrillers you'll find in anime. Hiroshi Odokawa is a lonely, blunt cab driver in Tokyo whose passengers include a hippo chasing internet clout, a shady alpaca nurse, a failing comedy duo, and a gangster who's bad news in every sense. Each conversation feels mundane at first, just a guy doing his job, until a missing girl case starts pulling all these threads together, and suddenly the yakuza and the police both want a piece of Odokawa. The whole thing is 13 episodes of an original story, no source material, and every single scene matters. Nothing is filler. The anthropomorphic animal designs might throw you off, but that contrast with the grounded, adult subject matter is part of what makes it work. There's organized crime, social media obsession, loneliness, and a jazz soundtrack that gives everything this low-key noir feel. If you liked the slow-burn paranoia of Paranoia Agent or the way Beastars uses its animal world to dig into real human ugliness, this is in that lane but playing its own game entirely. By the final episode, you'll want to rewatch the whole thing just to catch what you missed. It respects your attention and rewards it.

I thought this anime would be a slice of life, comedy anime but noooo. This was so good.
LOVEEEE IT from start to end!! For first timer, you'd think this is just another odd Anime with anthropomorphic characters, when you indulge further you'll be surprised!!
A random side character suddenly gets a full on, crazy ass tragic backstory... based on a gacha game and collectible erasers. Somewhat of an "odd" (heh) / experimental narrative choice but this is exactly where I got fully hooked onto the series. Brilliant.
When I finally felt like I caught up with the plot it's another bomb of just mystery! I got some answers but at what cost. Hopefully the movie clears things up
Just wow! At first I was concerned with how all of these plots would relate to anything but after watching this episode I feel like I'm in the eye of the storm! Very climatic.
Odokawa is finally getting a fresh start in his life. From a misanthrope to being able to handle conversations a little bit better and properly facing them.
Tanaka's journey from when he was a child to the present timeline, the revenge took so long and he went through a lot but him losing it was the grand conclusion. It's just so real like we go through a lot to reach our goals but then feel empty or lost when we've grasped it.
Shofutei Donraku is finally more connected to the story than just a person Odokawa admires, an eraser, and a viral tweet. Even an idol has it rough when their spot is taken from them.
Almost every character in this show is morally gray but each of them is doing what they can for what they believe in. Their desires are what pulls them close to one another.
Odokawa is smart. He's using everything he can to take down Dobu all to help those important to him. Dobu's lecture to Kabasawa hits close to home, Kabasawa's confession to Dobu is relatable. Hating oneself and not accepting yourself can be a form a narcissism too, huh?
Odokawa is like House. There are only hints but he is connecting everything even with the tiny details. He even remembered the other idol, Shiho, because of a conversation he was having with his passenger.
Yano gives off a different dangerous vibe than Dobu. Dobu is straight up bad news and he does not even hide it. Yano dresses properly and the way he talks is so random that you'd stay away from him not because he seems like he'd hurt you but because he is crazy.
Desperation pushes people to do things they normally wouldn't do, even if it's dangerous and bad. Desperation can make people's thinking narrow and blind to other things similar to Shirakawa and Tanaka.
The mystery about all the tiny details that happened in the previous episodes are starting to connect. Kakihana's desperation hurts, he's lying so much and compromising his life for something he isn't 100% sure of.
Tanaka's feelings of being frustrated over his life and trying to do something to feel better by collecting stuff and gaming is relatable. Life is unfair in so many ways and sometimes it's comforting to just pour all your energy into what you like.
When I first watched this show I couldn't believe Hanae Natsuki was the voice actor for Odokawa. It's just very different from the other characters he's voiced. Now that I'm watching it again, he sounds so natural I forgot he's voicing Odokawa.
The characters shown in episode 1 are starting to get more involved with one another. The other characters are slowly being drawn to Odokawa and his taxi, but at the same time many different stories are slowly being unraveled.
Rewatching this, it's hard to say anything as everything in the show can become a spoiler. Anyway, there's a lot of stuff introduced that nothing might not be making sense but trust me it will.
