Night Shift Nurses
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A gynecologist with a shady past, Dr. Ryuji Hirasaka gets recruited into St. Juliana Hospital's new VIP ward — a private unit catering to very influential clients who expect very discreet service. The hospital director pulls him in to personally train a select group of nurses for this ward, and from the first episode it's clear that 'training' means something far beyond standard medical procedure. The power dynamics between Hirasaka and the nursing staff are front and center, and the show leans hard into the psychological tension of that setup. It's dark, it's uncomfortable, and it knows exactly what it is. This 10-episode OVA from 2000 is adapted from a visual novel, and that origin shows — there's more character framing and internal psychology here than you'd expect from the genre. The hospital setting gives it a clinical, almost cold atmosphere that makes the content hit differently than something more straightforward. If you liked the psychological manipulation angle in Bible Black or the institutional power dynamics in Discipline: The Record of a Crusade, this scratches a similar itch but keeps its tone grounded in one specific location and a tighter cast. It's not trying to be subtle about what it is, but if you want something with a bit more setup and atmosphere baked in rather than jumping straight to the action, Yakin Byoutou is worth the time.
