Neko Konogoro: Tenka Toitsu-hen

From Kagoshima, at the southernmost tip of Japan, a feline sets out to conquer the entire country. That's the Sengoku period retold with anthropomorphic animals, and it works way better than it has any right to. Nekotarou is a charismatic feline who somehow becomes a castle lord and sets out to unify the country alongside his loyal companions Gorosuke and Nekomatabei. The twist is that every feudal warlord they encounter is a different animal species, so you get these absurd clashes where historical power struggles play out between cats, dogs, birds, and whatever else the creators felt like throwing in. The character designs are genuinely clever — samurai armor and topknots adapted for animal anatomy — and the show leans all the way into the comedy of the premise without ever winking too hard at the camera. It's 12 episodes from Kachidoki Studio, adapted from a manga, and the pacing stays tight throughout. The Sengoku setting gives it just enough structure that the jokes land against something concrete rather than floating in pure randomness. If you liked the cozy animal vibes of Sue Cat or the offbeat humor of Kanashiki Debu Neko-chan, this hits a similar frequency but with a historical adventure angle. It's a comedic reimagining of one of the most dramatized eras in Japanese history, except everyone has paws. The soundtrack is surprisingly good too — upbeat and fitting for the tone without being overbearing. Easy watch, low commitment, genuinely funny.
