I think the bell test with Kakashi brought a sense of nostalgia back to the viewer. From OG to Shippuden it shows the real growth that Naruto and Sakura have had since. I also think the entry of the Akatsuki is very significant as now they are after powerful ninja and will impact the time line a great deal
