Synopsis

Behind Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland was a real girl named Alice Liddell; and she's spent her whole life wishing people would just forget that. This movie follows the actual historical Alice as she grows up in late 19th-century England, quietly suffocating under the weight of a fictional version of herself that everyone seems to love more than the real her. It's a strange kind of identity crisis, one that most people don't think about: what happens to the person behind the legend when the legend takes over? The film leans into that question hard, following Alice through travel, art, and the relationships that slowly help her figure out who she is outside of Wonderland. The tone is quiet and introspective: this isn't a fantasy adventure, it's closer to a period drama about self-acceptance. The animation brings 19th-century England to life with real care, and the emotional weight builds gradually rather than hitting you over the head. If you liked the real-world grounding of Alice in Borderland or appreciated how Noein: Mou Hitori no Kimi e handled identity and parallel selves, this covers similar emotional territory from a completely different angle. It's a single movie, so it's a clean one-sitting commitment. Worth it if you're in the mood for something that sits with you after the credits roll.
