Midnight Panther
Oshimeter
Synopsis
By day, The Pussy Cats — singing, performing, and winning over crowds — spend their days as a popular musical act traveling a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. Then night falls, and they become the Midnight Panthers, a team of assassins who take contracts on dangerous targets. It's a genuinely fun setup: the same women who had fans screaming for encores are now slipping past palace guards with very different intentions. Each of them brings something distinct to the work — Sonya can weaponize her own hair, Kei shapeshifts into a leopard, and their mysterious manager coordinates the whole operation from the shadows. The two-episode OVA kicks off with a contract to take down a tyrannical king, which gives the story just enough political texture to feel grounded before things get wild. Being a 1998 Arms production, this sits firmly in hentai territory, so the erotic content is upfront and frequent — don't go in expecting it to be incidental. If you've spent time with late-90s titles like La Blue Girl or Cool Devices, you already know the aesthetic: hand-drawn action, fantasy worldbuilding used as backdrop rather than focus, and a tone that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's short, it's pulpy, and the assassin-by-night premise has more personality than you'd expect from something this compact. Two episodes means it doesn't overstay its welcome.
