Meltylancer: The Animation

Until they got disbanded, the Galaxy Police Organization's go-to unit for interstellar threats was made up of six women with wildly different abilities. A year later, someone or something decides to remind the GPO exactly why they needed these particular six people in the first place, and suddenly everyone's getting the call to come back. The catch is that none of them left on the cleanest terms, and reassembling a team of a sharpshooter, a martial artist with animal traits, a priestess who heals, a woman who summons an exoskeleton, and a literal witch takes some convincing. There's a new commander too, which adds another layer of friction to an already prickly reunion. The tone sits firmly in action-comedy territory: think less gritty space opera and more banter-heavy team dynamics with fight sequences sprinkled in. It's a 6-episode OVA from Gonzo, based on a game, so the characters come with established personalities that the show leans into pretty quickly rather than spending too much time on setup. If you've watched Vandread and enjoyed the ensemble-in-space energy, or if Sakura Wars: Ouka Kenran's mix of distinct personalities and supernatural combat clicked for you, this scratches a similar itch. It's not reinventing anything, but it's a comfortable, lighthearted sci-fi ride with a cast diverse enough that someone will probably end up being your favorite by episode two.
