Mebius Dust
Oshimeter
Synopsis
On a leap day that shouldn't even exist, February 29, 2000, a massive meteor shower blankets Japan in an alien substance called Mebius Dust. Some people gain incredible superhuman abilities. Others twist into something unrecognizable and violent. That's the world our rookie protagonist walks into when they join a specialized government task force charged with containing dust-induced anomalies and protecting what's left of normal society. The hook here is the power system. The same dust that lets you do extraordinary things is actively trying to turn you into a monster. Every time these agents push their abilities, they're gambling with their own humanity. It gives the action real weight, not just "can they win the fight" but "will they still be themselves afterward." The early episodes do a solid job building out the squad dynamics, and there's a police-procedural rhythm to the missions that keeps things grounded even when the sci-fi elements go big. This one's a Project ANIMA grand prize winner, meaning the concept was specifically developed as an original property, and Doga Kobo is handling production. If you know them mostly from their comedy and slice-of-life work, seeing them tackle darker sci-fi action is genuinely interesting. If you liked the contractor system in Darker than Black or the tension between power and cost in Guilty Crown, this is hitting similar notes. Fans of World Trigger's methodical team-based combat will probably find something to latch onto as well. Worth keeping on your radar for 2026.

That final shot of Araki on the bridge watching the plane with the contrail is a nice bookend to the token Stella gave him by the river but a new crystal growing out of him right at the end is such a cheap way to dangle a season 2 that will probably never happen
Cruz fading out and leaving that little crystal behind got me more than anything else in this finale
I keep thinking about the flashback where young Araki grabs Stella and calls her his sister just so he won't be alone. The show flat out confirms he messed with her memories to do it. That is so much darker than I expected from this character and I felt genuinely uneasy about it
You wait the whole season for the escape and only Stella actually gets to leave. The team that was supposed to do this together just stands there waving. What was the point of all those territory games if this is the payoff
I could not stop thinking about Araki holding that crystal fragment after Crusus faded. Ten years of lying to a girl and the show just hands him a tearful goodbye and a gift. My man really got rewarded for gaslighting his own sister
Stella deciding Tomori Stella is as real as any other version of her is the only thing that saved this for me. She was the character everyone else was writing around. The rooftop confession scene was rough to sit through because Araki never really answers for it
Cruz fading and leaving that crystal behind gave her an ending that felt like a closing door. gorgeous and unfair in the same breath
the memory restoration scene confirming the parents were gone the whole time is the moment that got me. no big speech just that quiet grief on Stella's face
Araki calling Stella his sister just so he wouldn't be alone in that facility and then finally saying it out loud as a lie years later broke me more than any fight could
Only Stella making it out after everything the team fought through stings. twelve episodes built this place up as a prison and now everyone's just supposed to nod and move on
That attack run toward the floating structure had some genuinely smooth animation. Marimo launching everyone with his bare hands was the only thing keeping me awake in the second half
Kurusu floating in that void space asking why nobody stays by his side hit way harder than anything the good guys did all episode. The villain is carrying this whole show
I couldn't stop cringing at Araki sobbing his way through the memory reveal. Like dude you gaslit her for ten years and now the tears are supposed to fix it? Pick a lane
So the team just hugs it out with a guy who rewrote his own sisters memories. Cool cool cool. Nobody in that room has a functioning moral compass
you waited eleven episodes to tell us the whole sister thing was fake and now you cram it into a rooftop argument at sunset. the pacing on this show is a crime
Never have I been more excited to watch an episode of this show than I have for this one, and, if you told me I'd ever in my life be excited for this series prior to watching episode seven, I'd have thought you'd gone crazy. I'm sorry (I'm not) but I will always love good guys/main characters joining the bad guys/becoming twisted in some way, so I'm supporting Araki in his villain arc through and through. Honestly, the whole show, I've never cared for a single aspect of it, including characters, apart from Araki, so seeing him joining the "villains" (even though he's sort of being manipulated by the glowing ghost) is so satisfying and fun, especially since I don't really like Stella. As for the episode, it was just another play fight from the kids, except Araki used his ability to help his new team. I know it probably won't last, but I want him to keep being a part of this current team because it's more drama and excitement for me. Loved the episode, maybe only because I was waiting for Araki to deliver, and deliver he did.
the dogeza in the rubble was a lot for me. he lied to everybody including dr yuda and messed with stella's head but one bow and it's all forgiven. kurusu is gonna eat them alive next week while they're busy hugging
so araki tampered with his own sister's memories and everyone just welcomes him back with a group hug. sure. that barrier flickering at the end is the only thing keeping me watching
you can't take araki back that fast. stella wasn't even in the room for that decision and she's the one who got her memories rewritten. her crashout is going to be the most earned moment in this whole show and i am here for it
So the team just lets Araki back in and nobody asks Stella first. She is still picking up the pieces of her whole life and they hand her the guy who broke it. That bow in the rubble means nothing to me
