📖 SYNOPSIS

"Makkuro na Obentou" depicts the tragic events of August 6, 1945, when an atomic bomb devastated Hiroshima. The story centers on Shigeru, a young boy who leaves home that morning to work as a building excavator, carrying a lunchbox prepared by his mother. Tragically, he never returns. The narrative follows the mother's desperate search for her son. Eventually, she discovers his remains, finding the lunchbox, now completely black and carbonized, lying beside him. This anime adaptation is based on the book "Makkuro na Obentou (The Charred Lunchbox)," which was written by Kodama Tatsuharu and illustrated by Kitajima Shinpei. The actual bento box, a powerful symbol of the devastation, is displayed in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The anime explores the profound impact of the bombing on individuals and families.
