Episode 1 left me with mixed feelings, and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. The biggest problem is the exposition. The first half is a slog. Way too much explaining the world, the game, the magic system, and Kousuke’s whole deal. It feels less like watching a story and more like someone dumped a wiki page on me. Lots of internal monologue, him just sitting around thinking, and it drags hard. I was checking the time more than once. Once it finally moves past that, it gets better. Kousuke is the only reason this episode works. I actually like him. He’s not the usual isekai protagonist who wakes up and instantly becomes the strongest guy in the room. He’s the side character—the hero’s best friend—and the show leans into that instead of pretending otherwise. His game knowledge isn’t a free win button. He’s got real limits, especially with magic (huge mana but can’t actually use it properly), and watching him try to work around that is more interesting than another overpowered power fantasy. He’s low-key, a bit tired, and doesn’t try too hard to be cool. That alone makes him more likable than most of these protagonists.
Marino showing up later is a massive upgrade. The second she appears, the episode stops feeling empty. She’s got presence, personality, and actual chemistry with Kousuke in like one scene. It’s kind of annoying how much better the episode gets once she’s there, because it makes the first half feel even slower in comparison. Still, her scene is easily the best part.
Visually it’s fine. Nothing special, nothing ugly. Clean designs, consistent animation, and they clearly put more effort into Marino than anyone else. You can tell where the budget went.
Overall? It’s not a great first episode. It’s a setup episode that spends too long setting things up. But Kousuke is interesting enough, and Marino’s introduction is strong enough, that I’m still curious. If the series stops treating the audience like it needs every single rule explained and just lets these characters cook, this could actually be fun. For now, it’s carried almost entirely by one guy and one late-arriving girl… and somehow that was enough to get me to Episode 2.

Same here, the first half really did drag with all that explaining. But Kousuke being a tired side character instead of the instant-strongest guy instantly won me over.
