Lupin III: Dragon of Doom
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Lupin III takes a job from a Hong Kong crime boss, tasked with pulling off one of history's messiest heists: recover a legendary dragon statue from the bottom of the ocean, somewhere in the wreckage of the Titanic. The job sounds straightforward enough for a thief of his caliber, especially with Jigen and Fujiko along for the ride. The catch is that the dragon isn't just some pretty artifact — it belongs to Goemon's clan, and according to the legend, it carries power that even his legendary Zantetsuken sword can't match. That means Goemon, their usually reliable friend with the world's sharpest blade, is now the main obstacle standing between Lupin and the treasure. Watching the crew turn against each other while rival factions close in from every direction is exactly the kind of layered chaos that makes this franchise fun. If you enjoyed the heist energy of Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro or the globe-trotting weirdness of The Mystery of Mamo, this TV special hits similar notes. It also gives Goemon more room to breathe as a character than he usually gets, which fans of the stoic samurai will appreciate. The tone stays light without losing the tension — action sequences, dry humor, and a genuinely interesting setup about loyalty versus obligation. Good entry point for newcomers, satisfying callback for longtime fans.
