Like A Mom
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Out of nowhere, Keita's dad hits him with a genuinely weird situation: 'Pick a new mom from these four women moving into our house.' Keita lost his mother when he was young, and he's long since made peace with that — so his reaction is basically to drag his feet and score everyone as low as possible just to make the whole thing go away. What starts as an awkward, borderline absurd domestic arrangement slowly turns into something more complicated as he actually gets to know the four women and their very different personalities start pulling at him in ways he didn't expect. The setup is unusual even by the standards of this genre — it's less about wish fulfillment and more about Keita navigating genuine discomfort, grief he thought he'd buried, and relationships he didn't ask for. The tone mixes drama with lighter comedic moments that come naturally from four very distinct women sharing a house with a guy who wants nothing to do with any of them. It's a two-episode OVA from 2009, so it moves fast and keeps things focused. If you've watched something like Aneki... My Sweet Elder Sister The Animation or Ane Yome Quartet and appreciated the character-driven side of things, this scratches a similar itch. It won't reinvent the wheel, but the central premise gives it a little more emotional texture than you'd typically expect.
